National Council for Community Behavioral Healthcare YouTube Video Contest Winners
In the USA, mental health care for those who cannot otherwise afford it starts with the community mental health system – serving the most severe, most disabled patients with severe and persistent mental illnesses, through community based clinics, hospitals and affiliated services.
The National Council for Community Behavioral Healthcare is a national organization that affiliates these care centers. It can be easy to forget these systems because they do not very often promote themselves, but they are the backbone of care for those who most need it.
The National Council recently ran a video contest inviting members to create videos taking about what they do. Members voted on which videos were best, and the winners were just announced.
NHS Human Services and the Guidance Center each garnered over 22,000 votes and are co-winners of the contest.
NHS Human Services, Inc., a community-based organization serving the special needs of over 50,000 children and adults annually, provides care in the following areas: addictive diseases, autism, education, intellectual and developmental disabilities, juvenile justice, mental health, elder care, traumatic brain injury, and treatment foster care. NHS has grown from one site in Philadelphia to a multi-state, multi-service system, non-profit provider of human services and one of the largest in the country.
The Guidance Center, founded in 1958, is a behavioral health and human services organization dedicated to the mental well-being of children, adults and families in Southeast Michigan. The programs, including early intervention services for infants, parenting skills, substance abuse and mental health counseling, literacy and juvenile justice, serve more than 20,000 people each year.
The Mental Health Mental Retardation of Tarrant County and Shiawassee County Community Mental Health Authority were second and third place finishers.
We want to highlight these videos and draw attention to these centers/clinics so that people better understand what they do and how well they accomplish it. These centers need our support.
