AMHC is the Family Visitation Services provider for Aroostook, Washington, and Hancock counties under contract to the State of Maine Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Office of Child and Family Services. The purpose of the program is to provide children who are in DHHS custody and referred by the Department, or a federally-recognized Tribe, with a safe, supportive and supervised environment for arranged visits with their parents (and/or other identified individuals during the reunification and rehabilitation process). The parents (and/or other identified individuals) also engage with the Visit Support Worker (VSW) to improve their parenting skills.
AMHC provides Family Visitation Services that consist of skilled observation and assessment of parent-child interactions, and include modeling/teaching of parenting skills during scheduled visit times by a trained VSW. The parameters of the scheduled supported visits are determined through the Family Team Meeting (FTM) process, with the family’s assigned caseworker, and the family (including the family’s formal and informal supports). The VSW shall participate in FTMs, as requested by Department staff, and according to each family’s individualized Rehabilitation and Reunification Plan and court order.
