AMHC Announces Elisha Benson as Program Director
AMHC is pleased to announce that Elisha Benson has been appointed as the new Program Director of Behavioral Health Services for Washington and Hancock Counties. Benson’s experience as a therapist and clinical consultant, and as a leader in the Maine healthcare system, made her an excellent candidate for the position.
“Many members of AMHC’s leadership team have decades of experience with the agency, so the agency makes leadership appointments with great consideration. This kind of role requires discernment, strategic thinking, and a deep respect and care for both staff and the people we serve,” says AMHC’s CEO Christy Daggett. “Elisha’s specialized experience, combined with her skills and training, makes her the perfect fit for the important work we do.”
Benson’s role will involve overseeing the development and implementation of mental health and substance use programs in Washington and Hancock counties. Within those three counties, AMHC operates services in Calais, Ellsworth, and Machias, offering outpatient services, peer support, crisis and coordinated care services, sexual assault advocacy, and more.
“I am excited to be joining AMHC to support the important work being done across our communities. I was drawn to this role because it allows me to return to my community roots while contributing to an organization that is deeply committed to accessible, high-quality behavioral health services,” Benson says about her new role. “I look forward to working alongside the team and those who make a meaningful difference for individuals and families.”
Elisha earned her Master of Social Work from the University of Maine and is now pursuing her Master of Business Administration at Husson University. Prior to working for AMHC, she served as Associate Vice President of Inpatient Operations and Patient Access at Acadia Hospital. She also recently provided therapy and clinical consultation through her private practice.
AMHC congratulates Elisha Benson on her new role and looks forward to her insight and leadership in expanding accessible behavioral health services in Downeast Maine.
