The Family Visit Program provides court-ordered Supportive Visitation Services in Aroostook, Hancock and Washington Counties paid for by the State of Maine DHHS, Office of Child and Family Services. When a child is removed from a parent’s custody and the judge decides that monitored visitation is appropriate, the Maine Department of Health and Human Services works with the parent and AMHC’s Family Visit Program service to develop a child visit plan. The visit plan is intended to give children and the approved parents, guardians and other visitors a regular opportunity to visit with the goal of reunifying the family. A visit support worker from AMHC monitors and provides appropriate parenting tips and suggestions during visits to help re-build trust and nurturing relationships. The visit support worker is specially trained to help parents improve their parenting skills and abilities so that they can regain custody of their child. For more information, call 498-6431.
