Aroostook Teen Leadership Camp (ATLC)
ATLC develops teen drug prevention leaders who gain the necessary knowledge, skills, training, and support to effectively work with other teens through a five-day residential summer camp. The camp is designed for grades 5 – 9 and provides leadership skills, substance use awareness education, team building, and coping skills development. Along with the summer camp, ATLC works with teens throughout the school year to continue developing and strengthening the skills acquired at camp. Maine Youth Action Network (MYAN)
Programming through MYAN helps support ATLC while including adult learning, equity in schools, youth voice, employment and internships, and consulting with community partners to ensure the progress and growth of youth. For more information, please call 207-493-3361 ext. 157.
Downeast Prevention Specialist – CCBHC
An AMHC Prevention Specialist provides substance use prevention education to local schools in Hancock and Washington counties. Topics include:
- Prime for Life – an evidenced-based motivational prevention, intervention and pretreatment program specifically designed for individuals who might be making high-risk choices.
- Botvin Life Skills – an evidenced-based substance use prevention program that focuses on targeting the social and psychological factors that initiate risky behaviors. The program teaches students the necessary skills to resist peer pressures to smoke, drink and use drugs.
- Mental Health First Aid – a national program to teach the skills to respond to the signs of mental illness and substance use.
- Tobacco Prevention
- Bullying Prevention
The Prevention Specialist also partners with AMHC Sexual Assault Services to provide training in bystander intervention, gender norms, media literacy, online safety, and cyber citizenship, to name a few.
