Individual/Group Treatment for Mental Health (including co-occurring with substance use)
Every individual (child or adult) who comes to AMHC will receive an initial assessment from a trauma informed care perspective. The focus of the assessment is person-centered to ensure individuals are offered the appropriate types of treatment(s) best suited to their needs and interests.
Family/Couples Therapy
Treatment services are available for a family or couple seeking this type of service.
Medication Management Services
AMHC offers psychiatric medication management services for adults and children that compliments other outpatient services that the individual is receiving. On occasion, medication management may be offered without additional AMHC services.
Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
A voluntary, work-based program offered by employers and includes free and confidential assessments, short-term counseling, referrals, and follow-up services to employees and their families who have personal and/or work-related problems.
Student Assistance Program (SAP)
A program offered to schools for their students’ confidential assessments, short-term counseling, referrals, and follow-up services to students and their families who have personal and/or school-related problems. School systems can contract for specific behavioral health services to meet the unique needs of their students.
Assessment and testing services are offered in the community primarily in a school setting or AMHC outpatient office in Fort Kent, Madawaska, Caribou, Presque Isle, Houlton, Calais, Machias and Ellsworth.

A holistic service intended to help adults 18 and older manage their behavioral health and physical health needs. Services are provided by a team of individuals comprised of Health Home Coordinators, a clinical team leader, a nurse, and a peer support specialist. The team provides case management to assist with accessing needed community services and resources, symptom management, wellness management for improved mental health/physical health, life-skills building, coordination with healthcare providers, and support from peers.
Children’s BHH provides:

- Care coordination of services with healthcare provider
- Peer support
A holistic service intended to help children and families manage their behavioral health and emotional needs. Services are provided by a team of individuals comprised of a health home coordinator, a clinical team leader, a nurse, and a family support peer specialist. Targeted Case Management is designed to connect families with resources that will help them meet their goals and make sure the needs of the child are met. Case managers meet regularly with children and families in their homes to develop service plans, identify community resources and advocate for needed supports. They support families by attending school meetings, medical appointments, making referrals, and monitoring services as they progress.
Services are offered in the home, community, or outpatient location in Fort Kent, Madawaska, Caribou, Presque Isle, Houlton, Calais, and Machias.

Community Integration is funded through a contract with DHHS. Please call for eligibility. Services provided by a case manager including symptom management, and a variety of skill/resource-focused interventions to achieve or maintain independent daily living as well as developing and/or improving interpersonal relationships. A case manager also provides assistance with accessing needed community services and resources, well as focusing on health/wellness and linkages to needed healthcare services.
Community Care Team (CCT) is offered to our clients with chronic health conditions in Washington & Hancock counties and assists them in living healthier and happier lives in their own homes. There are no fees for the service.

Services
Community Care Team (CCT) provides clients with support in meeting their treatment and recovery goals, avoid repeated emergency room visits, hospital stays and multiple doctor appointments. Appropriate clients are those with multiple chronic conditions such as COPD, diabetes, and obesity.
Our caring team serves eligible MaineCare adults and children and offers the following:
- In-home nurse visits and medication education
- Transitions from hospital to home or to a rehabilitation facility
- Education to help with healthy eating and weight management
- Individual and family caregiver support
- Referrals to other community resources as needed
- Transportation coordination as needed
Adult Residential
Presque Isle and Madawaska
Each home offers a 24/7 structured and supportive living environment for adults 18 and older. The homes provide an opportunity for individuals to achieve a higher level of functioning with a goal toward independent living in the community of their choice. Residents learn the skills and gain the resources and support needed to be successful in reaching their goal.

Children’s Residential
Calais
A 24-hour, 10 bed clinical residential program for children ages 7 -19. Services include treatment in a structured environment for youth with behavioral and developmental challenges.

AMHC provides transportation services for adults 18 and older with serious mental illness in Aroostook County who meet the specific eligibility requirements for Section 17, Community Integration Services.
County Ride is designed to provide support with transportation to access community resources needed for daily living, for example educational, employment, social and recreational opportunities that are designated as part of one’s treatment and recovery plan and all of which are not covered by the MaineCare non-emergency transportation program.
However, if an individual who qualifies for County Ride transportation service does not have MaineCare coverage then County Ride can assist with access to medical and behavioral health services (non-emergency medical transportation) as well as with the above-mentioned transportation for access to non-medical community resources.

The mission of AMHC’s housing services is to provide stable, affordable housing to individuals who meet MaineCare Section 17 criteria and submit a completed application, usually with the assistance of their case manager. Applications are screened and approved for consideration based on need. If no unit is available at the time of the application, the applicant will be placed on a waitlist. AMHC provides the following subsidized housing programs in Aroostook County:

AMHC offers two consumer-operated peer-run recovery centers in Aroostook County. Each center provides persons 18 and older with mental health challenges the opportunity to experience peer-to-peer support services in empowering ways. Peer-to-peer supports encourage individuals to identify personal priorities for their growth and recovery and to rebuild their sense of self and purpose.
The centers offer mutual support, center-based and community-based activities, and linkages to needed services. Participants are provided with opportunities to “tell one’s story”; engage in formal and informal peer support; be mentored, and become a mentor; participate in groups around self-management and problem-solving skills related to everyday life; build readiness for employment; engage in peer activities allowing self-expression and creativity, as well as to develop advocacy for oneself and/ or other peers.
