AMHC Observes International Overdose Awareness Day

Aroostook Mental Health Services, Inc. (AMHC) is proud to join communities worldwide in observing International Overdose Awareness Day on August 31, 2024. This year’s theme, "Together We Can," emphasizes the collective power and resilience found in unity. It is a message for everyone—from those who use drugs to those who do not, from grieving friends and family members to dedicated activists, healthcare professionals, harm reduction workers, and advocates. Overdose affects all of us, and it is only by standing together that we can make a difference.

"Together We Can" underscores the importance of unity in addressing the tragedy of overdose. It serves as a call to action for every community member to come together in support of those affected by addiction, to remember those lost, and to celebrate those living in recovery. This day also aims to raise awareness and eliminate the stigma and shame associated with addiction, ensuring that everyone feels supported in their journey.

To mark this important day, Recovery Support Centers across Calais, Machias, Houlton, and Caribou will be holding candlelight vigils and other activities. These events provide a safe space for reflection, remembrance, and action, bringing our community together in the spirit of hope and healing.
