Micah Wall Recovery Scholarship Fund

The AMHC Micah Wall Recovery Scholarship Fund was created to help individuals access vital recovery services. Inspired by Micah's own journey, the fund understands that overcoming addiction is a process that starts with recognizing your struggles, a desire to be sober, and acknowledging you need help. The Micah Wall Recovery Scholarship Fund is available for those serious about recovery but face financial challenges. Micah's family, despite the heartbreaking loss of their son to substance use disorder, is determined to make these funds available to as many people as possible. Micah's own recovery involved steps like therapy and active participation in the recovery community, with strong support from his family. Recovery is a day-by-day and sometimes moment-to-moment journey that underscores its seriousness. Micah's hope was always that he and others who struggle with addiction will experience a lasting, hope-filled recovery. We invite you to join Micah's family in making treatment accessible to all who need it.

Micah Brian Wall was deeply loved by his family and community. Growing up in Caribou, Maine, Micah was known for his many talents, interests, and leadership skills. He exceled in school as a straight A student, was active in student government, and selected as one of two young men to represent Maine at Boys Nation in Washington, D.C. He also placed third in his wrestling category at the State championships. Micah attended Gordon College and received both his bachelor’s degree in economics and master’s degree in economics/health administration from the University of Maine at Orono.

Micah had all the advantages of growing up in a loving home and caring community. Even with his many accomplishments, for 10 years he struggled with a serious substance use disorder. It was important to Micah that everyone know that addiction does not discriminate.

Micah’s family had their own journey in learning what it means to provide support for a loved one who struggles with addiction. Supportive behaviors are not enabling behaviors, and they placed a high value on doing everything possible to support Micah during each season of treatment, relapse, and recovery. Although addiction can strain family ties, the effort to rebuild them is priceless. The last two years of Micah’s life was a rich time of family connectedness and healing.

By making public the challenges and triumphs of his addiction, Micah diminished the impact of stigma that has encouraged countless others to seek help and hope for their own recovery journey. Micah’s legacy will be the many lives saved because he had the courage to tell his story.
