AMHC Marks National Suicide Prevention Month 2025
This September, AMHC joins communities across the nation in recognizing Suicide Prevention Month. Together, we honor those we have lost, support survivors, and work to raise awareness about prevention. Suicide impacts millions of individuals, families, and communities, and every conversation matters. By learning the warning signs, starting conversations, and connecting people to resources like the 988 Lifeline, we can spread hope and save lives.
About National Suicide Prevention Month
National Suicide Prevention Month unites mental health advocates, prevention organizations, survivors, allies, and community members in promoting awareness and encouraging open conversations. It is a time to share resources, strengthen protective factors, and reduce stigma.
Suicide is complex and influenced by many interconnected factors, but it is preventable. Knowledge, care, and compassion can make a real difference. Understanding the warning signs and knowing how to respond can save lives. Healing is possible, and every journey is unique, which is why support must meet people where they are.
Throughout September, AMHC promotes the importance of evidence-based treatment, hope, recovery, and resilience. Building community partnerships, embracing the voices of those with lived experience, and encouraging peer-led initiatives are all essential to prevention. Small conversations can foster connection, break stigma, and help people feel less alone.
Accessibility and visibility of resources are crucial. People in crisis need clear and simple pathways to help, along with ongoing support and follow-up care that build trust and aid long-term recovery. Everyone deserves access to effective treatments and to feel respected, heard, and valued. Real connection, whether through a conversation, a shared story, or a simple check-in, can prevent a crisis and guide people toward healing.
