Share Facts Save Lives Adds AUD Resources

Share Facts Save Lives (SFSL) is a public education program of AMHC that provides accurate, accessible information on substance use. The program’s mission is to reduce stigma, share accurate information, and connect individuals and families to resources that support their health and recovery.

Since its launch, SFSL has offered information on prevention, harm reduction, and treatment for opioid use. The program has also developed a range of educational tools and graphics that can be shared across the community to build awareness. By making reliable information easily accessible, SFSL helps families, caregivers, and community members take the first step in understanding substance use and supporting recovery.

With the addition of Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD) content, SFSL continues to expand its role as a trusted source of information for Aroostook, Hancock, and Washington counties.

What Is Alcohol Use Disorder?

Alcohol Use Disorder is a medical condition that makes it difficult to stop or control drinking, even when it causes serious problems with health, relationships, or work. It is common and often misunderstood.

Stigma and misinformation can prevent people from seeking help, which is why SFSL now offers accurate information and a safe place to begin learning about prevention, treatment, harm reduction, and recovery.

Features of the New AUD Section

The Alcohol Use Disorder pages at ShareFactsSaveLives.org/AUD include:

  • Education – Clear explanations of AUD, its causes, and how to recognize the signs.
  • Risk & Protective Factors – Information about influences that increase or lower the chance of developing AUD.
  • Harm Reduction Strategies – Practical steps that reduce risks and protect health.
  • Pathways to Recovery – Options such as medical care, therapy, peer support, and lifestyle changes.
  • Family & Community Support – Resources to help loved ones and caregivers.

In addition to these online resources, AMHC offers counseling, treatment, crisis services, and community support for individuals and families. Together, the website and local services create multiple pathways to care and recovery. Visitors will also find downloadable graphics that can be shared online or in the community to help spread awareness.
